Bondage Reviews
One of the first reviews of Bondage has appeared online! The writer Joel Nedecky writes that the novel is “a sprawling revenge epic” that reminds him of Kill Bill, Terminator, and 8mm. ”Jimenez is a fresh voice on the crime writing scene, and Bondage is a great first novel. I look forward to reading more of his work.” Read Joel’s full review here.
You, too, can read an advance copy of Bondage, weeks before it officially drops on July 16th. Advance copies are available via Booksprout and BookSirens, or via emailing me at shane.jimenez@gmail.com. I only ask that you rate and review the book on Amazon or Goodreads.
Blood Spatter
Speaking of free stuff, you can also download Blood Spatter, a collection of crime-horror short stories set within the Las Vegas of Bondage. Blood Spatter is a completely free book that you will receive when you subscribe to this newsletter.
These stories have appeared in publications like Bristol Noir and Punk Noir Magazine, and take place during and after the events of Bondage. You can read “Epitaph,” one of the stories in Blood Spatter, here.

What I’ve Been Watching
The Guilty, a 2021 psychological crime thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Based on a screenplay from Nic Pizzolatto, of True Detective fame, and adapted from a 2018 Danish movie, The Guilty is an interesting little diorama of a film I hadn’t previously heard much about. While LA burns with wildfires, an emergency dispatcher and former cop answers a call from a woman he believes has been kidnapped, setting off a desparate search to save her from her kidnapper.
The Guilty has a handful of credited actors, but is very much a Jake Gyllenhaal solo vehicle, as he occupies the screen nearly every minute of the running time, the whole movie playing out through his point of view as he makes increasingly frantic calls to rescue the kidnapped woman, while secrets from his own past come crashing into the open. The Guilty plays out out almost like a one-man play or an old-school radio drama, with some interesting twists and turns along the way. Definitely worth a watch with your state-mandated Netflix subscription.
